A user on the mailing list requested this feature, and it sounds great. It would be nice to have some way of formatting parts of comments as code (including syntax highlighting).
Not just for code. Support limited html or BBCode. Groklaw and Slashdot have this sort of support.
I noticed this issue hasn't seen any updates in a couple of years, and I was curious if anything ever happened with it. Thanks!
We had a student get most of the way through implementing markdown support, which would enable this. There's some work to be done with it, but hopefully it'll get in for 1.8

I just pushed markdown support to master (916e7c7), which lets you add some nicely styled text and code samples.
